A Sunday Full of Fellowship and Memories in Takoradi

A Restful Night and a Refreshing Morning

We all slept very well last night, and this morning we woke up feeling refreshed and ready for the day. Mrs. Angie had made a delicious breakfast casserole, and Brother Ruckman—being a fellow coffee addict—brewed a great cup of coffee. It truly was the perfect start to our Sunday. After breakfast, we packed up and prepared to head to church with thankful hearts.

Sunday School and Morning Worship

Around 8:30 a.m., we made our way to church. Dave taught the Sunday School class and did a wonderful job. It was his first time preaching with an interpreter, and he handled it beautifully. Everyone seemed encouraged by the lesson.

Later, I had the privilege of preaching in the morning service. The altar filled quickly as people responded to the message, and it warmed my heart to see several familiar faces from twelve years ago. What a blessing to reconnect with old friends who are still faithfully serving the Lord!

Afternoon Visits and Old Friends

After lunch, Brother Ruckman and I went out for a few errands. One of our stops was Pastor Dare’s home, where we had a great visit with his family. Seeing his sister-in-law again brought back many memories—she was a dear friend to our family during our earlier years in Ghana. Those kinds of reunions remind me how ministry relationships often grow into lifelong friendships.

Gilbert’s Journey to Takoradi

Meanwhile, Gilbert had quite a morning of travel. He landed around 8:30, and like most arrivals at the Accra airport, it took him about an hour to get through customs. From there, he grabbed a taxi to the bus station, and his bus to Takoradi left around 11:15. About five hours later, I met him at the station. We dropped his bags off at the house, and he quickly changed into a church shirt. Pastor Prince pulled up just in time, and somehow we made it to church right on schedule!

Evening Service with Pastor Prince

That evening, I preached at Pastor Prince’s church. The congregation from Ntankroful joined us by bus, which made for a wonderful crowd. The singing was lively, the fellowship was sweet, and the Spirit of God was clearly present. Pastor Prince is more than just a friend—he’s like a son to me. I thank the Lord for faithful men who continue to serve with joy, even when ministry isn’t easy.

Driving Through Memories and a Sudden Scare

After church, we decided to take a short drive through the market circle. That part of town is filled with memories for our family. As we rode along, I pointed out familiar landmarks, and Gilbert added a few of his own. Then, unexpectedly, a loud commotion caught our attention. Two young men were fighting with knives. One was hurt, and the other ran off into the crowd. It was a sobering moment and a reminder of how quickly things can change.

Ending the Day with Thankfulness

Once things calmed down, we headed toward home. On the way, we decided to stop at KFC for supper—a small taste of home after a long, full day. We enjoyed the meal together and reflected on the many blessings of the day. As I write this tonight, everyone is resting, and I’m thankful for the safety, fellowship, and faithfulness we’ve seen today. Tomorrow already looks promising, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store.
