Trip from Accra to Takoradi – Safe Arrival and a Lesson in Patience

Smooth Landing and a Warm Welcome

We touched down in Accra right on schedule. From passport control to baggage claim, everything went incredibly smoothly—just an hour from touchdown to exit.

Outside the terminal, our driver Paul was waiting, smiling and ready to help. We loaded our luggage into the van and told him we had just two quick errands before leaving town: bottled water and an ATM stop. Simple enough—or so we thought.

A Small Setback at the ATM

We stopped at a nearby hotel where the ATM was located in the lobby. Dave inserted his card, and the machine made a strange noise before freezing. Then, up popped the dreaded message:

“An error has occurred. Please retrieve your card from the bank branch.”

We tried calling the numbers listed on the machine, but being Saturday, every office was closed.

It was one of those moments that tests your patience—and your perspective. Thankfully, we had other cards and enough cash to keep the journey moving. Sometimes small inconveniences remind us to stay flexible and keep our peace.

The Long Road to Takoradi

With water bottles in hand, we finally started the long road toward Takoradi. The trip took about seven hours, weaving through busy towns, dusty stretches, and the rolling green hills of Ghana’s countryside.

Even with rough roads, the ride was filled with laughter, storytelling, and the comfort of knowing we were on familiar soil once again. By the time we arrived at the Ruckmans’ home, we were hungry, tired, and deeply thankful for a safe journey.

We shared a good meal, swapped travel stories, and went straight to bed—grateful for God’s protection over every mile.

Faith in the Details

From a trapped debit card to a smooth drive through rural Ghana, the day was full of small reminders that God is faithful in the details. He watches over the big things—like flights and safety—and even the small ones, like bottled water and a working vehicle.

As we begin our new chapter here in Takoradi, our hearts are full of anticipation for what the Lord will do in the days ahead.

“The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” – Psalm 121:8
