Questions About the Consfords
Everything you want to know about our family, our mission in Ghana, how to give, how to pray, and how to get involved.
Who We Are
We are Joe and Laura Consford — Baptist missionaries preparing to return to Ghana, West Africa. Our family previously served in Ivory Coast and Ghana from 2001–2015, and now we’re heading back with renewed passion for church planting and training national pastors.
Our ministry in Ghana centers on things that last — planting churches, training national pastors through a Bible institute, and building relationships village by village. Our whole family serves together on the field. Here’s what that looks like in practice:
- Church planting in Ghana
- Training national pastors through a Bible institute
- Evangelism and discipleship
- Supporting Christian education and boarding-school ministries
- Using our family gifts together on the field
Yes. Our convictions are rooted in the authority of Scripture, the deity of Christ, the gospel, and historic Baptist doctrine. We are Independent Baptists serving under Central Baptist Church in Center, Texas.
We are sent out of Central Baptist Church in Center, Texas. They have a strong heart for missions and have stood behind our family through years of ministry in West Africa.
The Mission Field
Our mission field is Ghana, West Africa. Right now we are in the States — speaking in churches, raising support, and preparing to go back. Lord willing, we plan to be fully supported and on the ground in Ghana in the fall of 2026.
We are working toward a clear set of goals as we head into this next chapter of the ministry:
- Finish deputation and return to Ghana — fall 2026
- Expand the Bible Institute for national pastor training
- Support the boarding-school project for orphans and village children
- Build a growing team of churches and prayer partners who walk alongside us
We’re not starting from scratch. We have 13+ years in West Africa, long-term relationships in villages and cities, and a track record with national pastors who are already leading. We’re going back to a place we know, with people we love, to do work that is already bearing fruit.
- Over 13 years of experience on the field in West Africa
- Deep, lasting relationships with national leaders and churches
- Focus on training local pastors who will outlast any missionary
- Whole-family ministry — every one of us serves
- Evangelism, discipleship, and church planting that go together
There is plenty of room for people who want to get involved — whether you’re going or staying:
- National pastor training through the Bible Institute
- Church planting and evangelism partnerships
- School and orphan-care expansion projects
- Short-term mission trips with our team
- Missionary internships for young people called to ministry
Yes — and we would love that. We host mission teams for evangelism, teaching, construction projects, youth outreach, and village ministry. If your church has a heart to go, let’s talk about what a trip could look like.
Giving & Support
Missions is teamwork. Here’s how you can be part of what God is doing in Ghana:
- Pray — for our family, for the people of Ghana, and for the churches we are planting
- Give — through our sending church (see giving instructions below)
- Invite — have us present in your church or missions conference
- Go — join a mission trip or serve during a short-term opportunity
All support is sent through our sending church. Make checks payable to the church and write Consfords-Ghana in the memo line.
