Monday in Takoradi, Ghana: Early Morning with Sammy
This Monday in Takoradi, Ghana, started early for me—and for Sammy too. We were both up before the others, enjoying a peaceful morning while Dave and Gilbert got some extra rest. Sammy and I visited quietly, then made breakfast together: eggs, toast, sausage, and sweet mango. It was a great breakfast and a special time to connect before the day began.
Filming the Boarding School: Vision for Orphan Housing
Once everyone was ready, we headed to the church to take photos and video footage of the new boarding school building. Our goal is to create a high-quality video that will help raise funds for the portion of the school dedicated to housing orphans. We want the video to show what God is doing in Ghana and how others can be part of this exciting ministry.
We’re partnering with Central Baptist Church in Center, TX and friends back home to make sure this vision becomes reality. Every prayer and donation helps strengthen the future of Christian education in West Africa.
A Providential Meeting with the School Inspector
When we arrived, the school inspector was in the office with Pastor Prince. It’s encouraging to see that she truly wants to ensure the school meets every requirement for excellence. When I greeted her in Fante, she was genuinely surprised! That opened the door for a wonderful conversation about my late language teacher—who happened to be her friend as well. We talked about his dedication to education, and I told her it’s our goal to honor his legacy by continuing that same commitment to quality. By the time we finished talking, I think I’d made a new friend.
Lunch with the Harrisons: Jollof and Fellowship
Around 11:00 a.m., Brother Dewaine Harrison met us at the church. We spent the day with his family and enjoyed a delicious meal of Ghanaian jollof rice—flavorful rice, meat, and spices. It was wonderful fellowship.
Seeing a Growing City: Takoradi Then and Now
After lunch, we went into town to see more of Takoradi. The city has changed so much since we left eleven years ago. There’s more traffic, more people, and many new businesses, but it’s exciting to see the growth and progress. Takoradi is bustling, but it’s also full of opportunity for ministry and outreach.
When we’re in the States, we love telling people about this city while enjoying coffee from HOTS Coffee or relaxing at Bland Lake Hideaway. Both help support our mission work in Ghana and are great ways to stay connected to what God is doing here.
Evening with Friends and Fresh Motivation
After a full afternoon, we returned to the Harrisons’ house for supper—hot dogs for a simple, fun meal. Gilbert and Sammy played games with the Harrison kids while we enjoyed fellowship and a good conversation with Dewaine about ministry and family.
Prayer & Next Steps: Returning Within Ten Months
As I reflect on the day, I’m filled with gratitude and anticipation. Being back in Takoradi reminds me how much I love this place and these people. I can see so many opportunities to serve, and I’m eager to get back here full-time. Working with Brother Ruckman and the team, I believe we can accomplish great things for the Lord. Please continue to pray that we can raise our support and return to Ghana within the next ten months. The fields are ready for harvest, and we’re ready to go!
