Philippines Medical Missions | Danny Consford | Update 2

Conference, Campuses, and Conversations

I woke up at 6:00 AM after a great night’s sleep, knowing we were heading into a full and busy day. After breakfast at the hotel, we left at 7:30 AM and arrived at Ley Sam Baptist Church around 8:00 for the morning services of the missions conference, which began at 8:30.

Morning Missions Conference

The morning service opened with a message from one of the older national pastors. The sermon was preached in Tagalog, which many of the national pastors understood, even though the primary local language in Tacloban is Waray. While we couldn’t understand every word, it was encouraging to hear strong preaching and see the unity among the pastors.

After a 20-minute break with snacks, the second message was preached by Lemuel Tanawan, pastor of his own church and the son of Pastor Jerry Tanawan of Ley Sam Baptist Church. Both messages were excellent and set the tone for the rest of the day.

After the service, we ate lunch at the church and practiced for our special music for the evening service.

Outreach at a Major High School

That afternoon, we traveled to the largest high school in Tacloban City, which has over 8,000 students. During our time there, we were able to distribute more than 8,000 John and Romans.

While at the school, we also had opportunities to speak with students and saw several souls saved. We stayed for about three hours and eventually ran out of materials—a good problem to have.

Evening Service and Fellowship

After returning to the church, we enjoyed another great meal of rice, chicken, and grilled fish. The fish was especially good.

The final night of the missions conference followed shortly after. Our group sang a special, and Bro. Mike Potrocco, an evangelist from South Dakota, preached the closing message. It was a strong service and a great way to end the conference.

Afterward, we spent time fellowshipping with more than 35 national pastors who had traveled in for the conference. The night wrapped up with some light medical care for several of the pastors and their families.

Wrapping Up the Day

By the time we returned to the hotel, it had been a full day—conference preaching, school outreach, music, fellowship, and ministry from morning until night.

We turned in to get some rest, knowing the next day would be even busier.
