W'apow mu e,

The kids were out of school today.  It was a holiday in honor of the birthday of the first president of Ghana.

We had a fun day at home.  Joe helped me in the kitchen all morning.  We were working on things for supper.  We made homemade lasagna.  I worked on the sauce.  Joe made a devil's food cake.  Then, he worked on rolling out the lasagna noodles while I started the layering process in the pans with our homemade meatballs, homemade ricotta, sauce, and noodles.  Then, he helped me do the dishes.  We had fun working together.

The kids have been playing with a kitchen timer that quit working.  Gilbert noticed that it would not tick.  So, he said that he was going to take it apart to work on it.  A few minutes later, he came into the kitchen with a handful of little pieces and a giant spring.  He said, "Mom, it exploded!  It jumped out at me and hurt my hand."  Joe told him that the fun part was putting it back together.  Gilbert looked down at all of the many pieces and said, "It's doomed!"

The kids had some cleaning duties.  Then, we asked them to carry a coffee pot over to the guest room.  Then, they decided that the guest room was a great place to play.  They built a fort in there and wanted to take their nap over there.  Not much sleeping took place.

This afternoon, we finished tidying up the house in preparation for company tonight.  The Morgans and the Rosenbalms came for supper.  Tonight was the first time in twelve years that we have used my wedding china.  We shipped it to Africa in 2004.  At first, we didn't have a place to put it; so, it stayed in the boxes and barrels for a few years.  When we finally had a place to put it, I took it all out of the boxes and got everything situated.  Then, we had to leave Ivory Coast due to civil war.  At that point, I didn't know if I would see those dishes again.  Joe was able to bring the china back from Ivory Coast on one of his last trips there.

We had a good time of fellowship with the Morgans and the Rosenbalms.  The kids had fun entertaining.  The food was all good.  Everyone was ready for bed this evening!
