A Day in Busua: Evangelism, Ocean Breezes, and Sweet Memories

This morning started early with a fresh cup of coffee — and I sure do love good coffee. After breakfast, our whole group headed out to Busua, a small beach town we’ve loved for years. It’s one of those places where the breeze, the waves, and the sound of laughter make you thankful for simple joys and God’s creation.

The Drive to Busua

Dave, Sammy, Gilbert, and I took a taxi while the others rode with Brother Ruckman in his pickup. The road was rough in spots, but we made it safely and had a good trip. Once we arrived at the Busua Beach Resort, we ordered lunch and enjoyed the ocean view. While waiting for the food, several of the group went walking along the shore and came back with sand dollars and seashells. Everyone had fun — it’s hard not to smile when your feet are in the sand.

Relaxing and Evangelizing

The Ruckmans had an appointment back in Takoradi, so they returned with the McCurrys after lunch. Evelin stayed with us, and we spent the afternoon walking along the beach and enjoying the cool sea breeze. It was refreshing in every way.

Later, we drove to Agona for evangelism before the evening service. We had a blast talking with people in town and sharing the Gospel. Gilbert and I practiced our Fante, and that got plenty of smiles and laughter from the locals. It’s always encouraging to see how language opens doors for ministry.

Evening Service in Agona

The evening service was wonderful. Gilbert, Sammy, and Evelin sang “It Is Well,” and it was beautiful — one of those moments that reminds you why you’re here. I was so proud of our young people for using their voices for the Lord. Brother McCurry preached a great message afterward.

We were thrilled to see four first-time adult visitors from our afternoon evangelism, and another man came who hadn’t been attending regularly. It was a night full of encouragement and evidence of God working in hearts.

Ending the Day with Sweet Fellowship

After the service, we piled into the vehicles and started the trip back home. Traffic was heavy, but we made it safely. When we arrived, Mrs. Angie had made brownies and served FanIce ice cream for everyone. Gilbert was especially excited — FanIce was a childhood favorite when our kids were younger!

I passed on the brownies and ice cream but enjoyed some deer sausage that Brother Ruckman had brought. It was delicious and the perfect end to a great day.

Now, as we pack our bags and get ready for the long trip home tomorrow, I can’t help but feel grateful — for safety, fellowship, and the sweet reminder that ministry can be joyful, even on the road. I’ll try to post an update before we board the plane tomorrow.
