A Long Journey Home
We left Accra on time. The flight from Accra to Washington was smooth and uneventful. I sat next to a man named Tom, who grew up in Takoradi and moved to the United States in the 1970s. When he saw me reading my Bible, he asked if I was a Christian. That question opened the door for a wonderful conversation.
Tom shared a powerful testimony of salvation. He was saved thirty years ago when a man knocked on his door in Minnesota and gave him the Gospel. I couldn’t help but wonder—will I ever meet that soul winner in Heaven? And how many people have been reached for Christ because that one faithful man, whose name may never be known on earth, went out and told others how to be saved?

Rest and Reflection in the Air
I slept for over eight hours on the flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Normally, I have a hard time sleeping on airplanes, but this time I slept very well. My seat was tucked into a corner by the window, and during the night, the wall of the plane became so cold that I woke up with my teeth chattering.
After gathering a few extra blankets from some empty seats, I walked to the galley and asked for a cup of coffee. Dave met me there, and we enjoyed our coffee together while talking with the flight attendants.
It was an incredible crew. One lady had been flying for forty-eight years, another for forty-three, and another for thirty-two. Out of the six attendants, five had worked for United Airlines for over twenty-five years! There was one young man who had been with the team for just one year. The lady with thirty-two years of experience laughed and said they needed at least one person with some height and strength to help them.
Landing in Washington, D.C.
We landed in Washington, D.C., right on schedule. Passport control and customs went very smoothly, and our luggage came out quickly. After rechecking our bags, we all met at my gate for breakfast.
Dave and Sammy had a long layover before continuing to Minneapolis and then to Canada. Gilbert’s flight to Chicago left at the same time as mine. Please pray for Dave and Sammy—by the time they reach their final destination, they’ll have been traveling for well over thirty-six hours. Some of those hours are pretty rough, but the Lord gives strength when we need it most.
Excited for What’s Next
I landed around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. By 11:30, I had my bags and was in the car with Laura. It was such a joy to see her again and to know all the luggage made it safely too.
The drive from Houston to San Augustine took about two and a half hours. When I stepped out of the car, it had been about thirty-seven and a half hours since leaving the Ruckmans’ home in Ghana.
Even though I was tired, I couldn’t wait to change clothes and head straight to our Missions Conference at Central Baptist Church. I’m excited to see how God will work through this conference and all that He has in store for our next steps.
