Bonjour,

Danny is one today. The year has gone by so quickly.

We headed to Bassam this morning. We got caught in traffic. The traffic on the autoroute (interstate) was at a standstill. As we were sitting there, we saw a police truck that tried to do a u-turn in the median and had gotten stuck. They were frantically trying to get out, but their tires were just spinning. It rained all night last night. When we got up to where the truck was, Joe talked to one of the policemen and told them that we could pull them out. Joe got out the chain and put the vehicle into four-wheel drive. We got one tire out, and the chain came unhooked. They got it hooked back up, and we got them out. There were several policemen in the truck. They all came and thanked us. Then, they jumped in and attempted to cross the median again. The president was coming through in a few minutes, and they were supposed to be helping clear the road. They made it across that time.

It took us about an hour longer than normal to get to the Posts’ house because of the traffic. We left the boys with the Posts while we went to get a few souvenirs to take back to the States with us. We got back just in time for lunch. We had hotdogs, baked beans, and french fries for Danny’s birthday lunch. Then, we had cake, icecream, and rootbeer.

Gilbert and Danny had a great time playing. Danny liked his presents; Gilbert liked them too. : ) Danny got a little shovel and a rake from Gilbert. He got a pop-up tent in the shape of a bus from Mommy and Daddy. He got a phone, a motorcycle, and an airplane from the Posts.

While the boys played, we played a game of 42 with Dan and Jennifer. The guys won, but we had fun.

It got dark before we got all the way home, but we had a safe trip home.

A demain,

Joe, Laura, Gilbert, and Danny
