Bonjour!
You haven’t heard from us for awhile because our computer is down again. It
is still down, but we are at a hotel with internet access.
We had planned to leave Thursday to go to Ivory Coast. However, our vehicle
was still in the shop. So, we left Friday morning early instead. When we
got to the border, the border was closed. Rebels or armed robbers (They
aren’t exactly sure who did it yet.) had taken over the Ivorian border,
killing three border guards and wounding several others. (We found this out
after the fact. When we were at the border yesterday, no one really knew
what had happened. Some of the border guards and their families had fled
into Ghana.) So, the Lord had our vehicle break down for a reason!
We had planned to spend a few days with the Litsons. We needed to renew our
car insurance while we were there. We could not renew our car papers at the
border yesterday because our insurance was going to expire today. Matt
Litson sent someone into Abidjan yesterday to get a month’s insurance for
us. He was able to scan it in and e-mail it to us. We stayed at a hotel

about 45 minutes from the border since Joe would have to go back today to
renew the car papers.
Joe went to the border this morning. The border was closed again because
they are still not sure who has control of the Ivorian border. They had
only opened it yesterday to foot traffic; that was just mainly Ivorian
citizens. He was able to get the car paper renewed so that we can continue
driving for the next month. He was not able to get out passports stamped
since we could not leave the country and come back in. They wrote a note,
and we will have to go to the immigrations office in Sekondi and get an
extension on our visa. They said that with their note it shouldn’t be a
problem to get our stamps renewed for one month.
Joe talked to the Litsons this morning. Everything seems to be business as
usual in the other parts of Ivory Coast.
We just wanted to let you know that we are safe. Thank you for praying for
us! We hope to have our computer back up and running soon.
