Bonjour,
We rode with the Luthers to church this morning. Julie didn’t go because their youngest, Katie Grace, was sick today. Today is her 2nd birthday; they think she has the mumps. All of our kids have been vaccinated for that, but they don’t vaccinate. Pray that Katie gets better soon and that the others don’t get it.
Just as Sunday school was starting, Danny decided to tickle the girl sitting next to him. I don’t know what possessed him to do that. His tickle is more like a claw. The little girl started crying. Danny said, “I was just tickling her.”
The kids went to their own class again by themselves. They really wanted me to go with them, but I stayed in the adult class. After Sunday school, Gilbert said, “Mom, every time I looked at the door, I started tearing, but I didn’t cry.” A couple of the Luther kids are in the class with them, and Miss April helps in there too; so, they aren’t the only white people in there. They are just used to having me right there, I guess. Everyone starts out in the auditiorium; after the singing, the kids leave to go to their classes.
When we got home, we had lunch and then went down for naps. Gilbert never did go to sleep. He went outside with Daddy for a few minutes. He came back in and said, “Mom, Dad frightened a boy.” I’ve never heard him use the word “frightened” before. Some of the kids from the nearby village are afraid of us. When we were waiting for the Luthers to come pick us up for church, there was a group of boys talking to us. One little boy was standing off in the distance. The other kids told us that he was afraid. Gilbert and Danny decided to be the welcoming committee. Danny reached out to pat the boy on the back, and the boy took off running and screaming. Danny caught him; he was bound and determined to show him that he didn’t need to be afraid. That boy will be traumatized for life!
Evans preached a message out of John 18 tonight. The message was mostly in Fante, the main tribal dialect in this area. The parts we understood were good. He seems to be a well-grounded preacher. He was in the Bible Institute when we were here before.
I made pizza and breadsticks when we got home. The kids are playing in the dark in the living room. They thought it would be great fun to play in the dark. It is making Mommy and Daddy sleepy!
A demain,
Joe, Laura, Gilbert, Danny, and Bonnie
