We would like to thank everyone who has been praying for Bonnie. She is
continuing to improve.
Our family doctor in the States sent us some information last night. He
said that from all of the symptoms that we had given and research that
he had done that it sounds like Wet Lung Syndrome. Some full-term
babies who are born by c-section have too much fluid on their lungs.
For the first 24 hours, the baby progressively gets worse. With proper
treatment (oxygen and keeping the baby at normal body temperature in an
incubator for 72 hours with as little movement and the least amount of
physical contact possible), the baby will fully recover.
They did take an x-ray last night. The doctor came this morning to tell
us the results. He said that the x-ray showed no abnormalities or birth
defects. He said that she is getting better each day and that it just
takes babies longer to recover. She will probably be in the incubator
for at least three more days. She has to be off of the oxygen and the
medications for eight hours without any difficulties before she will be
removed from the incubator. Then, she will stay at the hospital for at
least 24 hours for observation to make sure that there aren't any more
breathing problems before she can go home.
We have seen her a couple times today. She is breathing much slower
today with not as many spasms.

Bob Engelhart goes to teach a class in Bingerville on Saturdays. So, he
dropped Nana, Gilbert, Danny, and Margie off so that they could visit
with us for awhile. The boys were happy to see us. They got to see the
baby on the video. Only the parents are allowed in the nursery with a
sterile robe, mask, and slippers. We can only stay for a few minutes at
a time.
Thank you for your continued prayers. We will try to keep you updated
on Bonnie's condition. We can't send e-mail from the hospital; so,
Joe's mom took the computer home last night and brought it back to us
today.
Thanks again!
Joe, Laura, Gilbert, Danny, Bonnie, and Nana Consford
