September 2026 Prayer Letter

One Raised Hand in Webster, New York

From the pastors’ conference in Takoradi to churches in five states, and the road back to Ghana

Joe and Laura Consford Deputation Ghana, West Africa

On a Sunday morning in Webster, New York, a young lady raised her hand at the invitation to be saved. That one hand is the heart of our September prayer letter, and it made a month of long drives worth every mile. Laura and I are glad to tell you how the month went.

Back From Ghana and Back on the Road

We walked into our house in San Augustine at 9:30 on the night of September 1, seventeen and a half hours after leaving Dubai. We had just finished eleven days in Takoradi, Ghana, at the West Africa Pastors and Workers Conference, where I preached five times. Three days later we boarded a plane for California. By the end of the month we had worked churches in California, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, and Tennessee.

Along the way we found a few hours for some American history. We walked the Mayflower II at Plymouth, toured the USS Constitution in Boston, and stood at Fort Ticonderoga. After a month that started in Africa, it felt odd to be reading the Mayflower Compact on a New England morning.

Ben, the Door Greeter in New Hampshire

On a Wednesday night we presented the ministry and I preached at a small church in Littletown, New Hampshire. Their door greeter, Ben, who has Down syndrome, was my favorite greeter of the whole deputation. A church that puts Ben at the front door has its welcome in good hands.

A September Prayer Letter Story From Webster, New York

Sunday morning I preached at Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church in Webster, where Jack Young is pastor. At the invitation, a young lady raised her hand to be saved. After the service Laura sat down with her, opened the Bible, and showed her how she could know she is going to heaven. She asked Jesus into her heart.

We have driven a lot of miles this year. That one raised hand was worth every one of them.Webster, New York

Later in the month, a Sunday school teacher read a story from That’s My Goat to her class, and a girl under conviction trusted Christ. That makes seven people I know of who have been saved through a story in that book. That is why I wrote these stories.

Your Churches Are Shortening the Road to Ghana

Several more churches voted to take us on for monthly support this month. Each vote brings us a step closer to Ghana, where church planting, pastor training, and Bible institute work are waiting for us. Our goal is to return in January 2027, and we are humbled to serve as your representatives.

“Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.”Philippians 4:17 (KJV)

Every soul reached is fruit to your account, and that includes the young lady in Webster. We could not do this without the prayers and giving of the churches who stand with us, including Central Baptist Church in Center, Texas, who sent us out.

How to Pray for Us This Month

October takes us through Texas, Ohio, and Kentucky, so we would be grateful for your prayers on these four things:

  1. The remaining support to come in so we can return to Ghana in January 2027.
  2. Safety on the road as October takes us through Texas, Ohio, and Kentucky.
  3. Gilbert, Danny, and Bonnie as they settle into a new season at Providence Baptist College.
  4. Opportunities to present our ministry.

Thank you for standing with us. Download or print the September letter and share it with your pastor, your Sunday school class, or a friend. Churches are welcome to post it on their websites and social media.
