Starting the Trip to Ghana

Meta Description (155 chars):
Joe Consford begins his long-awaited journey back to Ghana! Read how improved health, family teamwork, and faith mark the start of this new missionary chapter.

A Strong Start: Health, Hope, and Hard Work

Yesterday I met with my doctor to go over my recent blood work. I already knew the numbers weren’t good, but I’ve been working hard on my health these past 20 days.

When I showed my progress chart, the doctor was impressed! I’ve lost 20 pounds in 20 days, and my average blood sugar has dropped from 300 to 149. There’s still a long road ahead to reach my best shape, but I’m finally on the right path.

Each step forward is one more reminder that discipline and prayer make a powerful combination.

Packing Day: Lists, Laughter, and Laura’s Leadership

Last night, Laura helped me pack. Packing is always fun—especially with Laura’s knack for organization. She had lists of what went in each bag, and somehow, everything fit perfectly.

By the time we zipped up the last suitcase, we were ready for a good night’s sleep. Morning came early, and we were up and out the door at 6:30 AM, heading toward Houston.

Travel Day: From East Texas to Washington, D.C.

We had a smooth drive to Houston, and Laura dropped me off at the airport around 9:30 AM. My flight to Washington, D.C., was on time and peaceful—a blessing for the first leg of this trip.

When I landed, I grabbed some supper, answered a few emails, and settled into my hotel by 5:30 PM. After weeks of preparation, the quiet evening felt good. I went to bed early, knowing the adventure was just beginning.

Family Connections and the Road Ahead

My brother-in-law, Dave Brignall, and my niece, Sammy Brignall, arrived around 12:30 AM. They’ll join me tomorrow for a day of sightseeing in Washington. Then on Friday, my son Gilbert will fly in, and the four of us will continue together to Accra, Ghana.

It’s hard to describe the mix of emotions—thankfulness, excitement, and a sense of purpose. Each mile brings us closer to the people and the ministry we love.

Looking Forward: Faithful Steps to the Mission Field

Every missionary journey begins with preparation, but it’s God who directs each step. From the doctor’s office to the departure gate, I’ve seen His hand in every detail.

As we prepare to take the Gospel back to Ghana, I’m reminded of Proverbs 16:9:

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”

We’re trusting Him to guide us safely and use every moment for His glory.
