Bonjour!

This day started rather early. Danny was up at 3:30. Just after he went back to sleep, Gilbert woke up. Gilbert went back to sleep until 5:00 when Danny woke up again. Then, they were both up for good.

Breakfast came with our motel room. The breakfast buffet began at 7:30. So, we had the car all loaded up by then. We ate breakfast and headed to Accra.

We arrived at the Baptist guest house a little before noon. The man who lives at the guest house was headed to the US Embassy. He told us that we could follow him there.

We went inside with him. The American Services office was upstairs. He was just going to pick up a passport. So, he got the passport and left us to fill out the necessary paperwork. At first, they told us that what we were needing to do can only be done on Wednesdays from 2:00 to 4:00. Joe explained that he had called to find out all of the particulars, and he was told that we could come on Thursday and that they would be open until 5:00. They were sticking with the story that it was impossible to do anything today. After Joe explained how far we had driven and that he didn’t want to make me and the baby make that trip all over again if it could be avoided, they told us we could go ahead and fill out the paperwork but that we would have to come back with the official birth certificate.

The passport pictures that we had were not acceptable because Danny was asleep in the picture. They said that his eyes must be open.

We went and ate lunch. Then, we went to get more passport photos taken. These people had a digital camera. They had to try several times, but they finally got a picture where Danny had his eyes open.

We went back to the embassy. The lady had changed her tune considerably. She said that she will go ahead and start the process. We can come back in three weeks to get the passport. We can bring the official birth certificate at that time. They had told us we would have to bring the birth certificate and then come back again to get the passport. So, it all worked out in the end!

We were all quite hot and tired. We went back to the guest house to relax. Joe ordered pizza for supper.

We will head to the souvenir market in the morning.

A demain,

Joe, Laura, Gilbert, and Danny
