Author Joe Consford on the Thrivetime Show

I recently had the incredible privilege of being interviewed by Clay Clark on the Thrivetime Show. Clay is well known as America’s #1 business coach, and his program reaches thousands of leaders, entrepreneurs, and everyday people who are looking for practical wisdom and motivation. To be featured on such a platform was both humbling and exciting.

At about the 15-minute mark is the beginning of the interview, Clay welcomed me on the show to share about my new book, That’s My Goat – And Other Missionary Stories, as well as the calling God has given our family to return to Ghana, West Africa. The Thrivetime Show often features high-profile business leaders, but this time Clay gave me the opportunity to talk about missions, faith, and storytelling. It was an honor to highlight how God has worked through both miracles and misadventures on the mission field.

A Conversation with Clay Clark

Clay Clark’s reputation as a no-nonsense business coach is well earned. He built multiple successful companies and has coached countless entrepreneurs across the country. On the Thrivetime Show, he brings that same energy to every interview. During our conversation, Clay asked about my journey, my years of missionary service in Ghana and Ivory Coast, and why I felt led to write a book filled with true stories from Africa.

I shared how That’s My Goat was born out of years of living through experiences that were sometimes funny, sometimes frightening, but always filled with reminders of God’s protection and grace. From encounters with snakes and bandits to cultural surprises and divine interventions, the stories all point back to the goodness of God. Clay gave me the space to share how these lessons can encourage anyone—whether you’re running a business, leading a family, or following God’s call across the world.

Why This Interview Matters

For me, the Thrivetime Show was more than just a media appearance. It was a chance to connect with an audience that might never otherwise hear about our ministry. Business owners, leaders, and entrepreneurs know the importance of perseverance and vision. Missionaries know it too. Being able to bridge those worlds through this interview was something special.

Author Joe Consford on the Thrivetime Show means that missionary stories from West Africa reached ears that are used to thinking about growth, strategy, and success. It was a reminder that true success is not just about profits but about faithfulness to God’s call.

Thank You, Clay!

I want to personally thank Clay Clark and the entire Thrivetime team for this opportunity. To sit down with America’s #1 business coach and share what God is doing in Africa was a blessing I won’t forget.
