A Good Evening at Camp With Bro. Doug Cassel

Here's the next update from Danny's medical missions trip to the Philippines. This one is from May 19.

Danny is in Tacloban, in the Philippines, where Ley-Sam Baptist Church is hosting the youth camp. The camp is held on a school campus, and they have made good use of the space. The school kitchen serves as the eating area, the classrooms are set up as sleeping quarters for the guys and the girls, and a larger classroom is where they hold the services.

They had a great evening service with the main speaker, Bro. Doug Cassel. If you're not familiar with him, Bro. Cassel pastors Bethel Baptist Church in Linton, Indiana, where he has served since 2004. Bethel is an old-fashioned, independent Baptist church that still preaches from the King James Bible, runs a bus route, broadcasts on its own radio station, preaches weekly in the county jail, and supports more than 75 missionaries around the world. The group Danny is traveling with is organized through Bro. Cassel's church, so it's a blessing to see them out on the field doing this kind of work.

After the service, the teams played games together, and then everyone headed back to the hotel for a few hours of rest.

Danny said it was a great evening, and he enjoyed getting to meet the people on his team and start getting to know everyone. When you're leading a group with a language barrier in the mix, those early moments of just learning faces and names matter a lot.
