Zuni Reservation Mission Trip Finale: Birthday Blessings, Barking Dogs & Golden Eagles

(Episode 3 of 3 – read Episode 1 and Episode 2 first!)

A Sunrise Start to Our Zuni Reservation Mission Trip

The Zuni Reservation Mission Trip finale began at 6:30 a.m. with devotions, coffee, and birthday phone calls to Mom. Breakfast burritos fueled our team for the hour-long drive from Ramah into Zuni territory.

Soul-Winning, Stray Dogs, and Steady Nerves

At Dollar General we grabbed ice for lunch, then hit the streets with John & Romans. A hungry man asked Bro. Little for food, so we handed him chips—and Scripture. Moments later a barking dog rushed our path. I rolled up my booklet like a baton, spoke calmly, and backed away until my partner re-appeared. No bites, just an unforgettable Zuni Reservation Mission Trip memory about courage and quick prayer.

History, Eagles, and Four-Wheeler Fun

Exploring 16th-Century History
We toured a Catholic mission church built in the 1500s; stone walls still whispering centuries of faith.

Up-Close at the Eagle Sanctuary
An afternoon stop at an eagle rehabilitation center let us pet a golden eagle—proof God’s creation is majestic even when injured.

Back at the Aarons’ house, a few of us rode four-wheelers before supper.

Double-Birthday Bash & Testimonies

Mrs. Herndon and I share a birthday, so the missionaries grilled fajitas, served ice-cream cake, and gifted me a Coke labeled “Manuel.” Bro. Little announced, “We’ll find Manuel someday!” Laughter turned to worship as every teen shared what God taught them. Seeds were planted—souls will be watered.

The Long Road Home

Friday at 5 a.m. we hugged our missionary families goodbye, hit McDonald’s for breakfast, and watched Bro. Little distribute napkins like a maître d’. After a Cracker Barrel stop, we rolled into Center, Texas just before midnight—tired, joyful, and ready to serve at Central Baptist Church.
