God's Protection Missionary Ghana: Real-Life Stories from the Field I remember one night, driving back to Kumasi after a village outreach. The roads here in Ghana are not always well-lit,…

I remember one night, driving back to Kumasi after a village outreach. The roads here in Ghana are not always well-lit, and the potholes can swallow a small car whole. We were tired, the kind of tired that makes your eyelids feel like lead weights. Suddenly, a herd of goats appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the road. I slammed on the brakes, the truck skidding, and for a split second, I knew we were going to hit them. However, we didn’t. We stopped just short, the goats scattering, and in that moment, I felt the unmistakable reality of God’s protection missionary Ghana.
Experiencing God’s Protection in Ghana
The mission field clarifies things quickly. It removes the padding. We talk a lot about spiritual warfare in our churches, but out here, it is a daily reality. Satan does not want the gospel preached, and he certainly doesn’t want souls saved. Therefore, he will use every tool at his disposal to hinder the work.
I’ve seen it in the resistance from village elders, the sudden sickness that hits just before a major outreach, or the unexpected conflicts that arise within a new church plant. These are not always just random events. Sometimes, you can feel the spiritual pressure, a heavy weight trying to stop you from moving forward. It’s in these moments that we lean hard on the promise of God’s protection, knowing He is stronger than any adversary.
Practical Protection: God’s Hand in Daily Life for Missionaries in Ghana
Beyond the spiritual, there’s the practical. Life in Ghana presents its own set of challenges that require divine intervention. We’ve dealt with everything from malaria to vehicle breakdowns in remote areas. One time, our old Land Rover lost a wheel bearing about an hour outside of Techiman, deep in the bush, with no cell signal. It was hot, dusty, and the sun was setting fast.
Laura and I just looked at each other, and then I got to work. We didn’t have the right tools, or even the right part. Nevertheless, a local farmer came by on his motorbike, stopped, and just started helping. He didn’t speak much English, and my Twi was still rough, but we managed. He found a piece of metal, a big rock, and somehow, with God’s help, we fashioned a temporary fix that got us to the next town. That’s God’s protection missionary Ghana in action, plain and simple.
“The number of Christians in sub-Saharan Africa grew from 7 million in 1910 to 517 million in 2010, and is projected to reach 1.1 billion by 2050.”

These aren’t glamorous stories. They’re just the everyday realities of missionary life. They remind us that God isn’t just concerned with the big spiritual battles; He’s also there in the mundane, keeping us safe through flat tires, food poisoning, and navigating busy markets. He provides for our needs, often through unexpected means or through the kindness of strangers. His hand is always on us.
The Comfort of His Presence
When you’re far from home, facing things you never imagined, the comfort of God’s presence becomes everything. His presence prevents bad things, and He is with you through them. There have been times when I felt overwhelmed, times when the work seemed too big, the language barrier too high, or the spiritual darkness too thick. In those moments, I truly understood what it meant to rely on Him.
The Bible tells us, “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27). This verse is a rock-solid truth for us here. Knowing that His arms are underneath us means that even if we stumble, we won’t fall completely. His presence is our constant reassurance, our peace in the storm. That peace is a vital part of God’s protection missionary Ghana.
We see that the key phrase is “I will be with thee.” He doesn’t promise a life without trouble, but He promises His presence through it all. That makes all the difference when you’re facing down a cobra in your kitchen or trying to explain the gospel to someone who has never heard of Jesus.

Our Shield is Prayer and Obedience
God’s protection is often tied to our obedience and the prayers of God’s people. We know that y’all back home are praying for us, and we feel those prayers. They are a tangible shield around us. I truly believe that many times we’ve been spared from danger because someone, somewhere, was lifting us up to the Lord.
I remember one time we were planning to travel a particular road. For some reason, I just had a check in my spirit. It wasn’t anything specific, just a strong feeling to wait. We delayed our trip by a day, only to find out later that there had been a serious accident on that exact stretch of road at the very time we would have been there. Was that just coincidence? I don’t think so. That was the Lord answering prayers and guiding our steps. When you commit to serve, He commits to guide.
Furthermore, our obedience plays a role. When we are walking in His will, doing what He has called us to do, we can trust that He will guard us. It doesn’t mean we won’t face challenges, but it means we face them with His strength and guidance. Enduring the Storms for the Harvest
The ultimate goal of all this protection is the furtherance of the gospel. God keeps us safe so we can keep serving. He shields us so we can preach. He guides us so we can plant churches and see souls saved. The harvest here in Ghana is plenteous, and the laborers are few. We endure the storms and trust in God’s protection missionary Ghana so that more people can hear the good news.
There is a joy in seeing someone open their heart to Jesus for the first time, a joy that makes every challenge, every breakdown, every moment of uncertainty, absolutely worth it. That’s why we’re here. We believe in the power of the gospel to change lives, and we believe God will keep us safe as long as He wants us here doing His work.
God calls me to serve, and He has kept me safe here in Ghana. If you want to know more about what it’s like on the field, I wrote a book called “Missionary on Fire.” It tells more about how God has worked in our journey. You can find it and other things at consfords.com/missionary-on-fire.
