Final Leg of the Journey

This morning, Dad and I woke up at 5:00. After getting up and getting ready for the day, we ordered an Uber. We had planned to leave the for the airport at 5:30, but our driver was only one minute away. We ended up having to scramble to get everything together.

Once we left our hotel, we had a quick drive to the airport. We were able to get everything checked in easily and without problem. Once we got to our gate, all we had to do was wait for our flight.

It was a VERY long flight. It was only ten hours, but ten hours can feel like a lifetime when the seats have no padding and only lean back about an inch or two. Needless to say, I/We were very glad to get off that plane!!!

After landing in New York City, we had to get all of our bags and recheck them. It ended up being quite the process having to go through customs, recheck our bags, and go through security. (Our bags were on three different luggage carousels; so, I guarded bags while dad went and found the others. We then had to go through security. I made it through without a problem, but dad was pulled aside for a pat down. We were already running a little late; so, that slowed us down a while.

After dad made it through, we had to run over a mile through the airport to make it to our gate, which was in the final boarding stage. Thankfully, we made it on, and the rest of our trip experience was smooth.

Once we landed in Dallas, we got our bags. Mom and Bonnie picked us up. (Danny had to get up at 3:45 AM to go mow a cemetery; so, he did not come with them.). I slept most of the way home while Dad drove and Mom and Bonnie kept Dad awake.

We made it home around one, and I slept well for the rest of the night. I have unpacked all my bags. Now, I just need to put everything away.

  1. Did they spray you down with bug spray before you left Africa? That shocked me when it happened to me. They fogged the plane while we were in there before it took off. So glad I had a hanky in my purse! I couldn’t have run 50 feet much less a mile! So glad you are home safe and sound. God is so good to answer our prayers.

  2. Welcome home I’m not sure which is worse; riding to DFW for a turnaround or getting up a 3:30 to mow. You have a terrific family and I know they’re all celebrating your return.
