The Joy of Mission Work in Takoradi Ghana

When most people think about Missions Work in Takoradi Ghana, they imagine vibrant markets, spicy jollof rice, and balmy breezes off the Atlantic coast. But we’d like to add another picture to your mental postcard: a church being planted, a soul being saved, and a young missionary with a heart for Africa writing in his daily blog.

Meet the Missionary: James Ruckman and His Work in Ghana

James Ruckman isn’t just any missionary. He’s a bold church planter with a deep love for the people of Ghana and a clear calling from the Lord. He and his family have made Takoradi their home, and their mission field is not only vast but ripe unto harvest (John 4:35).

Through Hope of Africa Baptist Ministry, the Ruckmans have:

  • Planted multiple local Baptist churches
  • Trained national pastors
  • Hosted soul-winning campaigns
  • Developed long-term discipleship programs
  • Equipped Ghanaians to reach Ghanaians

Their model is sustainable, biblical, and laser-focused on glorifying God. And it’s why we support their work and want you to know about it.

The Consfords’ Connection: From Texas to Takoradi

You may know us from small-town East Texas life—coffee, dump trailers, rabbits, and all—but our heartbeat extends far beyond our zip code. When our son Gilbert Consford graduated high school, he didn’t head off to a big university. He headed to Ghana. That’s right—Gilbert spent an entire year interning with Pastor Ruckman and his family.

He preached. He taught. He sweated. He probably ate more fufu than most people consume in a lifetime. But more importantly, he wrote a daily blog that you can still read right now.

And trust us—it’s worth it. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you might even feel called to missions yourself.

Church Planting: The Gospel’s Long Game

Why church planting, though? Why not just pass out tracts and go?

Because churches last. Churches raise up new believers, baptize converts, teach the Word, and send out even more missionaries. Church planting is the long game of missions. And the Ruckmans play it well.

Every brick laid, every pew filled, every song sung in Twi or English—it all points to the power of God to change lives through local churches.

And that’s why the Consford family partners with them.
