The Consfords: A Family of Missionaries to West Africa

Welcome to Consfords.com! We are the Consford family of missionaries to West Africa, committed to reaching Ghana and beyond with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Whether you found us intentionally or by providence, we’re glad you’re here and excited to share our story, mission, and how you can partner with us.

Joseph and Laura, missionaries to West Africa, preparing to serve in Ghana with Hope of Africa Baptist Mission.

Our Calling and History

In 2001, God called our family to the mission fields of Ivory Coast and later Ghana. Over the course of 13 years, we planted churches, trained national pastors, and discipled new believers. Many of these churches remain vibrant today.

In 2014, the Lord led us back to Texas where we served faithfully at our home church, Central Baptist Church in Center, Texas. I (Joseph) served as assistant pastor, Laura was assistant principal at our Christian school, and we operated a local hardware store. Despite our return, the burden for West Africa never left our hearts.

In 2025, after much prayer, God reopened the door for us to return. We are preparing to be back in Ghana by September 2026, God willing, supported by churches and individuals like you. We are sent under the authority of Pastor Danny Dodson and Central Baptist Church of Center, Texas.

Our Mission in West Africa

Our mission as a family of missionaries to West Africa includes:

  • Church Planting: Establishing and strengthening local churches.
  • Training National Pastors: Teaching in a Bible Institute to equip young men for ministry.
  • Christian Education: Laura will help develop and enhance Christian school ministries.
  • Evangelism: Distributing gospel tracts and engaging in personal evangelism.
  • Missionary Partnerships: Collaborating with James and Angie Ruckman of Hope of Africa Baptist Mission, who have planted five churches and are developing a boarding school for orphans.

We are fluent in French and a local Ghanaian language, enabling effective ministry across Ghana and French-speaking West Africa.

Our Family: Missions Together

Missions is a family endeavor for us:

The Consford Kids! Missionaries in Training!
  • Gilbert (20): Sophomore at Providence Baptist College studying missions; plans to join us after graduation.
  • Danny (18): Training as a paramedic; will attend Providence Baptist College in 2026.

We believe that serving God is best done together, as a family.

Endorsement from Our Pastor

Pastor Danny Dodson - Central Baptist Church Center Texas

This letter is to confirm that Joe Consford is returning to the mission field of Ghana, West Africa. He has the full approval and support of me, his pastor, and his home church, Central Baptist Church of Center, Texas. Also, his wife, Laura, is 100% behind the call of God to return to Ghana.

After returning home 11 years ago, he was always open to God leading him back to the mission field one day. That day has come, and he is now making preparations to return. He has set a date of September 2026 if he has the needed support that is recommended. Personally, I believe he could be back on the field in less time if the churches that supported him 11 years ago would simply pick him back up for support.

He will be going back to the same area he had previously served in Ghana. Missionary James Ruckman took over the work when Brother Consford came home, and they will team up again to continue the work as the Lord leads. The African pastors are excited to hear that he is returning. He did great work for the Lord for the first 13 years he was in Africa, and I believe he will do an even greater work this time.

Thank you for considering support for the Consfords as they return to Ghana, West Africa.

In Christ,

Pastor Danny L. Dodson
